The Elegance Quartet (Nacht; USA) Featuring Dave Ross on guitar, Bob Feldman on tenor sax & flute, Francois Grillot on double bass and Todd Capp on drums. I only know of guitarist Dave Ross from his great guitar playing on Ras Moshe' 'Transcendence' CD. Both Francois Grillot and Todd Capp are amongst the better avant/jazz musicians of the Downtown Music scene with a handful of their own self releases. Bob Feldman is another lesser-known Downtown saxist who has a fine trio disc with Ken Filiano & Walter Perkins. The name of this group, the Elegance Quartet, does seem apt since much of what they do is both elegant and free. The first piece, "Triple Belgian Chocolate Blues" is almost 30 minutes long and not really a blues. It sails and swings freely with some spirited yet laid-back flute and elegant guitar. This sounds like a studio date, the sound is clear and warm. It is rare to hear free/jazz that is so calm but this is what we have here. This is a fine, somewhat cerebral session that works well without any unnecessary fireworks. - Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery CD $8 http://www.nachtrecords.com/fr_downloads.cfm http://blogcritics.org/music/article/music-reviews-jason-kao-hwang-spontaneous/ http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/jasonhwang http://www.discogs.com/Harmonize-Most-High-Babylon/release/2154907 http://www.myspace.com/outlikelambs http://sundmagi.com/product/na-cd-004 Jazz Opinions, Barry Schaffer's Jazz and Photography Site Abop tv "real music...real arts television" Kordova Milkbar Records Jackson Krall, drummer.
